Why We Love Them: Sorghum is a naturally gluten free and Non-GMO ancient grain. Our supplier uses an innovative flaking process that gives our muesli a nice, lighter texture and slight crunch. Sorghum has high levels of unsaturated fats, protein, fiber, and minerals like phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and iron. It also has more antioxidants than blueberries and pomegranates!
Sustainability Factors: An ancient grain that originated in Africa requires less water and fewer nutrients to produce high yields when compared to corn which is well suited for the increasing periods of drought they are experiencing in the Great Plains and West Coast. We are currently looking to find a processor of our sorghum flakes closer to where it is grown.
