The thing about starting a food company is that you work really hard. Which is alright with me because I come from a family of entrepreneurs so hard work is in my blood. So naturally, I am a firm believer that you must love what you do (check) AND carve out time for hobbies. My favorite hobbies? No brainer – 1) spending time with the fam, 2) running and 3) entertaining. Brady doesn’t always understand the third one – all the planning, grocery shopping, cleaning, cooking, rushing around, more cleaning. Oh, but I love it. There is nothing more satisfying than hosting friends and family for a meal made with love. Food is an experience that I love to share with others.
A few weeks ago, I had an epiphany. What if I started a regular gathering that was all about inspiring the breakfast mealtime? It would be the perfect opportunity to test new product concepts I’ve been tossing around and an excuse to have a morning soiree at our house. The idea didn’t require much contemplating and Breakfast Club was born!
I hosted what will hopefully become the first of many Breakfast Club events a few weeks ago at our house. The concept was simple – bring a few good friends together on a Saturday morning, along with a guest of their choice (must be “new” to the group), and everyone’s kids to ring in summer, test new recipes and get inspired.
Despite our vision for hosting Breakfast Club outside in our newly primed and polished backyard, it was a torrential downpour that morning. So we all cozied up inside with our coffees, record player and toddlers and the show went on.
For the menu, I wanted light, nutritious and inspiring. I committed to using no butter and no refined sugars – not because I am totally against either, but because I wanted to highlight creative alternatives to the two ingredients that too often make their way into breakfast foods and baked goods. So there were a lot of whole grains, coconut products and fresh fruits infused into the foods.
I will let the pictures speak for themselves. We also had an incredible videographer capturing the morning, so look for a follow up to this blog when it is complete.
